| OnGuard Product Inspection Inc. provides x-ray inspection service to help food processors following an incident of contamination by foreign materials. Inspection by sensitive, automatic x-ray systems enables the producer to recover good product while protecting the brand reputation, avoiding risk to consumers and saving money. Even in the best-run food processing operations, things go wrong. Equipment breaks, operators screw up or the unforeseen occurs, and at the end of the day a whole day’s production may be contaminated by foreign material. Not all of it, but how can the producer know if it is safe to market? The safest choice is often to scrap the whole batch, which wastes money, materials and production time. The need to re-make the product also creates havoc with production and delivery schedules. Metal contamination may occur in products that cannot be inspected by metal detector when foil wrapped. Other times a metal detector lacks the sensitivity to find Stainless Steel particles as small as a millimetre or less. Here, x-ray is often used to locate the metal contaminant and clear the good product for release. Of course, non-metallic materials such as bone, stone or glass are not detectable by any other means, but x-ray inspection can often eliminate these potentially harmful contaminants. Product evaluation reports, to determine the feasibility of x-ray inspection are free of charge. OnGuard provides more than just equipment rental, but a full turnkey service from initial evaluation to supervision of the inspection process. Two recent enhancements increase responsiveness to almost ‘instant’: OnGuard’s radiation safety measures have been pre-approved by the Ontario Ministry of Labour’s Radiation Protection Service, which allows OnGuard to deploy the service immediately without the usual requirement for registration and approval of the installation. A dedicated truck, equipped with spare parts and accessories now delivers the x-ray system to the client’s premises where and when required. This avoids the delays and unreliability of freight services. We realize that a Production Manager facing a warehouse full of potentially worthless product is already under stress, so OnGuard’s service is flexible and responsive to the client’s needs. |
